- The widespread belief in the medical community and the public is still that pain is due to a physical cause, such as tissue damage, posture, structural or biomechanical changes
- This means that the focus is on ‘pain management’ where only the symptoms are treated, resulting in superficial and often only temporary relief
- Even when up to date pain neuroscience is taught, often the underlying causes are not identified and addressed
- The body is deconstructed into separate component parts and therefore the individual is not seen and treated as a whole
- The focus is on ‘disease’ rather than wellness, leading to disempowerment for patients and health professionals
- SIRPA identifies and addresses the underlying causes of pain. Because how can you provide targeted treatment if you don’t identify and address the root causes?
- When pain persists after tissues have healed, pain science shows that the pain is not linked to tissue damage
- Research shows that while chronic pain is real, various non-physical factors play a role in causing pain to persist, as well as triggering it in the first place
- SIRPA’s approach is focused on health and wellness, not on disease
- We focus on empowering health professionals and their clients to address the root causes of chronic pain and, wherever possible, to restore their health and wellbeing

How long do the CPD courses normally take?
The number of CPD hours is included in the course descriptions above and this demonstrates the minimum number of hours to work through each course. There are ‘Optional Extras’ if students would like to explore some of the topics further in their own time. This course sometimes brings up things for professionals themselves which they might want to work through for themselves, especially during the experiential course, Level 1. Level 3 also includes a minimum of 30 hours clinical work, but this will vary depending on the case studies and supervision undertaken.
What is the cost of the CPD Courses?
The costs of the courses are included above, as well as the cost for the SIRPA-Informed and SIRPA Practitioner bundles. When you click through to the course or bundle you will see the option to choose one of our payment options if you would like to spread the cost rather than pay the total in one payment.
Are there any additional costs?
From Level 2 we offer you the chance to sign up for our membership. You will be given access to the first 2 months for free and if you decide you would like to continue to access our many membership benefits, the monthly cost is just £30.
Any costs incurred for clinical supervision is in additional to the initial course costs. This includes the cost for the 5 required supervision sessions while going through your case studies for Level 3. These are booked with one of our SIRPA Practitioners who are also qualified Clinical Supervisors, at a cost of £65 per session.
Eligibility Criteria - Who are SIRPA's CPD courses for?
Level 1 is open to any professional interested in the link between stress and chronic pain. It will give you a good foundational knowledge of the science behind our approach, as well as a number of tools and resources which you can use to support your own health and wellbeing. Only those who know how to look after their own health first can effectively support others!
Level 2 is for any health and wellness professional or coach, including doctors and physiotherapists as well as complementary therapists, yoga instructors, nutritionists and more. You must have public liability insurance for your profession which will include cover for additional CPD courses to extend your learning. We will ask to see evidence of this at the beginning of the course. It will equip you to identify those in your work who are experiencing stress-related pain and rule out those who are not, provide tools and knowledge, educate them about their stress-related symptoms, and give them resources to resolve them within your scope of practice.
Level 3 is for health professionals, such as doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, occupational therapists, yoga therapists, counsellors, psychotherapists and some coaches. You must be able to demonstrate at least 70 hours of one to one client work, have public liability insurance which will cover any additional CPD courses. You must also be regulated by a professional body which requires you to comply to a code of practice. We will ask to see evidence of this at the beginning of the Level 3. This course is for you if you are interested in supporting people whose presentation is more complex, for example those who have experienced trauma or significant emotional stress which is contributing to their pain. This course equips you to work therapeutically with those who need some extra support to recover from chronic conditions, and qualifies you as a ‘SIRPA Practitioner’.
N.B. Coaches need to have completed a foundational level, professional and interpersonal coaching qualification at diploma level or above. This needs to be of at least 6 months duration and to have included practical experience of working with case studies with clinical supervision. This, plus being able to demonstrate a minimum of 70 hours of one to one work with clients, is to demonstrate their ability to work with clients using a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires the client to maximise their personal and professional potential.
PLEASE NOTE – Prior to purchasing Levels 2 & 3, please check you are eligible. However, if you sign up for Level 2 or 3 but are found not to be eligible, we will refund you the full amount minus £40 to cover the administrative costs involved, as long as you have not gone past the Welcome Module of either course.
Who are SIRPA's CPD courses NOT for?
This course is not for you if you are not a trained health or wellness professional. If you are interested in going on your own recovery journey from chronic pain, our Online Recovery Programme is more affordable (as there are no CPD hours awarded) and will give you a thorough understanding of the science behind chronic pain in an accessible way, and provide you with much support and tools to recover.
Are SIRPA's CPD courses certified?
Yes, our training is certified by The CPD Certification Service and offers 25 hours for Level 1,22 hours for Level 2 and 50 hours for Level 3. You will also receive a certificate of attendance after each section of the training.
Do you need to do each CPD course level in order?
Yes, Level 1 is a prerequisite to beginnning Level 2, and Levels 1 and 2 are prerequisite to beginning Level 3. This is because the information in each course builds on the knowledge which you gained in the previous course.
Is there a time limit to complete the courses?
There is no time limit to complete our courses. Having said that, if you undertake Level 3 our practitioner course, we ask that all case studies be completed and submitted within 12 months of completing Level 3. We do understand that at times this might be a challenge for various reasons (personal, life and work) and, if someone is unable to complete them within this time frame, we would simply get together to discuss this before deciding how to progress.
What if I am unable to continue with the course for a few weeks or even months?
These courses are all online for you to access from whatever device you choose, from wherever you are and whenever you are able to. If you find you are unable to continue for whatever reason, this is compeltely up to you.
Regarding Level 3 and case studies though, please see the question above.
Do I need to live in the UK to access these CPD courses?
The courses are online and provide continual professional development so there is no reason that you cannot purchase the course, wherever you live, as long as you check with your own professional body that you will be legally allowed to integrate this approach within your own work. It is your responsibility to check this.
Do you offer payment plans on your CPD courses?
Yes, we offer 3 month or 6 month payment plans for all of our bundles and courses. You can select which payment option you would like at the checkout.
Are the CPD course fees refundable?
A 100% money-back guarantee within a month of the start of the course is available if you feel the course has not delivered on its promise to you. Having said that, the information on this website and in these FAQ is available in order for you to be sure this course is right for you before you book.
