Matt's Recovery Journey
Matt’s Chronic Pain Recovery Story: From Tennis & Golfer’s Elbow Back to the Triathlon Podium
Matt is fit, active and a keen triathlete, but persistent pain began to take over far more of his life than he ever expected.
It started with hamstring tendinopathy. For around 18 months the pain grew until he had to stop training, and even sitting down became a struggle. Physio, scans and injections didn’t help. Then he discovered the mind-body approach and, through learning and journaling, gradually got back to the sport he loved.
When Matt came to see Lindsay, he was dealing with a new problem: elbow pain diagnosed as both tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow, along with loss of grip strength. The tools that had worked before weren’t helping and he felt stuck.
In this honest conversation, Matt shares his journey in his own words: what he tried, why he got stuck and what changed when he realised how much pressure he was putting on himself to “get it right”.
Most importantly, he shares what helped him move forward, including learning to be kinder to himself and simply enjoy his sport, which saw him back on the triathlon podium.
We hope Matt’s story offers some hope to anyone who feels stuck in their own recovery.
After recovering from hamstring pain using the mind-body approach, triathlete Matt was frustrated when elbow pain appeared and the tools that had worked before stopped helping. Working with Lindsay helped him see that the pressure he put on himself was a big part of what was stopping him from healing. Learning to be kinder to himself and simply enjoy his sport made all the difference, and he ended up back on the triathlon podium. If you’re feeling stuck, Matt highly recommends finding a specialist who understands the mind-body connection.
