Phil's Recovery Journey
Before starting on the SIRPA journey I’d had chronic pain many years before and recovered from it – RSI in that case. I fortunately found a therapist who had some understanding of mindbody pain and she managed to help me build confidence back in my life. However, my second significant episode was triggered by the death of my mum. I found myself with a ski-boot injury. I’d compressed a nerve, but when the feeling returned, so did ongoing pain for months.
During the process I was journaling sometimes 3 or 4 hours a day. I realised I had an enormous amount to unload, and also I was trying hard to turn my mind from pain means there’s a physical injury, to pain means emotional injury. It took a lot to reduce the health anxiety which had been built up from hours and hours of internet research. The pain spread and became allodynia (painful touch) amongst other things. However, it all calmed down about a couple of months.
Since learning about mindbody conditions, I’ve experienced a skin issue – ongoing acne – which was temporarily made significantly worse by lots of internet research! But that has nearly completely settled down now. My life is mine again and the tools I have now to combat the occasional health anxiety, general anxiety and feeling low mean I keep on top of everything in a way I’ve never been able to before.
In this video Phil joins us for a live Q&A to share his journey and answer questions.
Phil talks about mindbody symptoms he had experienced and how he now uses what he has learned to combat the occasional health anxiety, general anxiety and feeling low in order to keep on top of everything in a way he’d never been able to before.
