Maria H's Recovery Journey
Maria’s Success Story
Maria first developed debilitating pain in her arms, neck, and back in her mid-20s. Diagnosed with Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) — and later with severe spinal stenosis — she spent years trying to treat what she believed was purely a physical issue.
She tried everything: physiotherapy, chiropractic care, osteopathy, and more. But despite her efforts, the pain only ever eased slightly. Becoming a mother brought both joy and new challenges. The pain not only made parenting physically difficult but also took a toll on Maria’s mental health.
At 39, she was hit with pain in her knees. Initially diagnosed with tendonitis, her diagnosis later shifted to chondromalacia patella after an MRI showed signs of wear and tear. Once again, she tried a range of physical treatments, only to find herself disheartened when none brought much relief.
But everything changed in 2023
That’s when Maria discovered the mind-body approach. It started with the The Cure for Chronic Pain podcast by Nicole Sachs, followed by Tell Me About Your Pain. She then read The Way Out and several other books — and it all started to click. She realised that many of her symptoms had begun during or just after significant life stresses. The pain was real, but it was being generated by conditioned neural pathways — and that meant recovery was possible.
She also started to recognise a long history of mind-body symptoms: headaches, migraines, IBS, anxiety, and recurring low back pain since her teenage years.
The real breakthrough came when Maria began working one-to-one with a Pain Reprocessing Therapist. By fully accepting that her symptoms were not caused by structural damage, reducing her fear, and learning to welcome and process her emotions, she began to heal.
Now, Maria is living a full, symptom-free life. She’s not only free from chronic pain — she’s also found purpose in helping others navigate their own healing journeys as a SIRPA Practitioner.
️Listen to Maria share her inspiring story in conversation with Georgie Oldfield MCSP, founder of SIRPA. You’ll hear how she moved from pain and frustration to freedom and fulfilment — and how you can too.
